Federal COVID student aid funding (March 2021)

As announced in a February 2021 letter to the University community, Brown will distribute $5.4 million in funding to eligible undergraduate, graduate and medical students to assist with the unexpected financial consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. That letter and these Student Financial Services FAQs answer the most frequent questions, and a few additional questions related to Financial Aid are addressed here.

Eligibility for COVID-19 relief funding was determined by the recommendations of a working group of students, faculty and staff who developed and decided on the most equitable most equitable model for distributing the total funding to eligible students. Eligible students were notified of their offers by Student Financial Services via email — students did not need to apply for funding.

No, these awards were made specifically to assist students with the unexpected financial impact of the pandemic. Receiving an award will not affect your current or future financial aid.

Brown has supplemented federal aid with University funding to ensure that all students enrolled during the 2020-21 academic year who meet the eligibility requirements of demonstrated financial need are treated equitably, including international and DACA / undocumented students who receive financial aid.
