The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)is available to complete online.  See FAFSA Simplification

We are aware of the significant changes related to the 2024-2025 FAFSA delays and moved the financial aid priority deadline to March 1st.

Currently we anticipate releasing Financial Aid notifications mid to late June.

Application Instructions

  • Complete the FAFSA
  • After reviewing the FAFSA information, the Office of Financial Aid will determine if there are additional documents needed in order to determine a student’s eligibility. If additional documents are needed, we will list them on the requirements tab in Banner Self-Service after December 20, 2023.
  • To upload the additional required documents, use Banner Self-Service. (Current students are no longer required to upload documents through IDOC.)

In Some Situations, Application Instructions Vary

Students in these situations should contact the Office of Financial Aid at financial_aid@brown.edu:

  • Returning from a leave of absence
  • Applying for financial aid for the first time
  • Applying for aid for the Spring 2024 semester only
  • Receiving no need-based financial aid in the 2023-24 academic year (e.g. no University Scholarship)

International Students (including Canadians)

Brown plans to become need-blind for first year international undergraduate applicants starting with those initially applying to enter the fall of 2025.

Students admitted prior to the fall of 2025 will remain under the need-aware aid policy that is currently in place, regardless of when they entered or when they will graduate. In other words, international students will fall under the admission policy that was in effect when they initially applied to Brown and will remain under that policy throughout their time at Brown. Those admitted under the need-aware policy will not be eligible to apply for aid in future years if they did not apply for and receive scholarship at their time of admission. For example, if an international student applied to Brown with the Class of 2028 but deferred to the Class of 2029, their aid eligibility would be determined based on the Class of 2028 (need-aware) because that is when they initially applied and were admitted.

Check Banner Self-Service after December 20, 2023 to see which documents are required to apply for aid. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2024.

International students returning from a leave of absence should contact the Office of Financial Aid at financial_aid@brown.edu.
